Frequently Asked Questions

Can multiple packaging codes be declared for one shipment?

Yes. Multiple packaging codes may apply to a single shipment. For example, a shipment might include some waste in drums (code 1) and some in boxes (code 4).

What constitutes "special handling"?

Special handling includes any requirements such as upright orientation (to prevent electrolyte leakage), temperature control, shock protection, or specific loading/unloading procedures. These must be documented and attached as a numbered annex.

When should code 9 (Other) be used?

Code 9 should only be used when the packaging type does not fit any of the standard codes 1-8. When using code 9, you must fully describe the packaging type in the designated field.
